India’s first television service provider Doordarshan was first established on September 15, 1959, and till date, the channel has been entertaining its audience and has paved the way for the Golden age in Indian television. Today, on this date, the channel has turned 60 and #Doordarshan and #60GloriousYearsOfDD#Doordarshan have been trending since morning.

Since the channel is celebrating its glorious years, the owner has released a series of videos highlighting its iconic programmes over the years including Shaktimann, Vikram Betaal, Chandrakanta, to name a few. Not only this, they have also shared a video of India’s first Cricket World Cup victory, in 1983. We're sure after seeing these videos, it will surely take you down the memory lane. During the time of Doordarshan, families used to unite together in the living room to watch the daily samaachar or the evening shows which catered to all audiences alike with its evolving number of TV shows. From regional, comedy, general entertainment to news and sports, people never used to miss a single show on Doordarshan. Over time, it expanded to other countries and is free of cost on cable and satellite TV for smooth and universal accessibility in today's time.

Doordarshan was founded by the Government of India, owned by the Broadcasting Ministry of India and one of Prasar Bharati's two divisions.  Doordarshan, which also broadcasts on digital terrestrial transmitters, provides television, radio, online and mobile service throughout metropolitan and regional India and overseas through the Indian Network and Radio India.
